Malasia has been boarding our Toller Maisel since she was a little pup, and we've been doing private training with her since May. Your dog must be fully crate trained, meaning they are quiet and comfortable in the crate. This is to ensure they are secure and safe when sleeping overnight and if they need a little break! (We have an extra secure room for very few exceptions)
Dogs get quality one on one time with Malasia, time with other well-rounded dogs and get an off leash hike on our 30 acres daily. For dogs who are not off-leash reliable, they get walks on leash, we do also offer training programs that can teach your dog to be reliable off leash while they stay with us!
We provide dog beds, blankets, bowls, toys and everything else - All you have to bring is food and what they walk on!
We board 4-6 dogs, sometimes we take more depending on personality and care needs of the dogs! Our priority is that each dog gets what they need.

Perfect pepper, this girl handles situations so well! She hopped into this chair on her own while we were checking out which was the cutest thing cause she just sat there observing!

She met some cats today, was a bit weirded out since it was on a table in a cat box but she was curious and then just casually moved on!

She meets her adopter next week and it’s looking very promising! I’m going to miss this girl so much if everything works out but they will start some training shortly after so I know I’ll see her!

You can expand your marker word system to make things even more clear but starting simple is best!

Hi, my name is Malasia! It’s been a while since I did an intro and well, today I turn 24. As I sit here looking back at how much I have grown and what I have built. I figured it would be a good time to re-introduce myself and my business, Tuckered Out Training!

Tuckered out was founded in 2022, who I named after my first personal dog, Tucker the sable cardigan corgi! He taught me a lot about what it means to be a good dog owner and how to have a strong relationship with them.

I have been working with dogs professionally for over 5 years but have been surrounded by dogs and farm animals all my life!

I’ve always been drawn to animals since I was little, but dogs hold a special place in my heart. They have an incredible ability to teach us, to form deep and irreplaceable bonds, and to show us just how resilient and capable they truly are.

I own 6 dogs total - which might seem like a lot to some but they fit perfectly into my life and are a huge part of tuckered out! We compete and practice in many different sports like agility, ratting, scent work, PSA, obedience and dock diving!

We are a big adventure and camping crew, we always enjoy being outside and hiking off leash every chance we get. We luckily live on 30 acres so off leash hikes get to happen on the daily!

Winter is my favourite season and I’d say it’s my dogs too because they are always so much more excited to go outside then in the summer (unless water is around, that always wins ahah)

I have been apart of the rescue world for about 4 years and have fostered many dogs. My dream for years has been to own a facility that has that home feel/build where I can have many fosters and give them the best life possible until they find their forever home - this will happen one day!

Tuckered Out Training was created from a genuine love for dogs and a desire to do right by them. I believe that real training starts with connection, having fun and once you build a strong relationship with your dog, there’s no turning back. I’m dedicated to helping dogs feel confident and fulfilled, while empowering owners with the skills and confidence to be the best partner for their dogs!

Three simple things you can start today to improve your relationship with your dog.

If your dog seems more interested in everything else around them no matter what’s going on or where you are, it’s often a sign that you and your dog are needing to build your relationship!

But how do you build your relationship with them?

Learn how your dog loves to play, have fun confidence building moments to challenge your dog and show how you can support them. Provide clear, consistent communication to build trust and reliability. And most importantly, follow through on what you ask so your dog knows they can count on you!

All super key things to start rebuilding your relationship with your dog!

Often times when I have very limited time available, I end up feeling that’s the time to get some good reps in for some of the things I’m working on with my dogs!

I rarely go more than 3-5 minutes training my dogs anyways and if I have the time I could prioritize my dogs or sit around on my phone.

I choose my dogs every time.

Sometimes we think there isn’t enough time but really it comes down to what you prioritize. What’s important in the moment and what’s not.

I train my dogs 1-2 times a day, sometimes more and it never feels overwhelming because it’s seriously only a few reps at a time. This goes way further than trying to do crazy long 30 - hour long sessions!

Do I deserve to just sit down and chill sometimes? Yeah of course, and I do but if my dogs haven’t been trained yet and I have extra time to spare, I’m making sure my dogs get what they need!

I’m currently working on re-teaching positions and naming behaviours with my dogs so less is always more to make sure it’s done right and they retain all the info!

Juniper stayed with us for her first time, here is a look into our first play session together - this was just under an 8 minute session!

She got really into the play quicker with each session and we began to use slight distractions to work on her staying in the game more!

Miss clover and I got our advanced games title today after getting 2 Snooker advanced Qs!

Now we just need 1 more standard advanced title before we go into masters for everything!

I’m proud of us for going today and doing well after a few months break from trialing!

My goal for myself in 2026 is to work on my handing in trial settings though cause it needs some work!

Today we had a group hike with 18 dogs total - 5 of my own and 13 client dogs and I couldn’t be more proud of everyone!

Many of these dogs used to be reactive, and a few are still learning how to coexist nicely with other dogs but today they were comfortable, happy, and just doing their thing!

I want to specifically mention Jet, it was was his first time ever interacting with more than three dogs at once, which is a huge step for him! He handled it so well, was confident, made good choices and I’m so proud of how far he’s come!

I’m also incredibly proud of every owner who showed up, even with some uncertainty about the new environment or how their dog might do. Your hard work is paying off, and you should be proud of yourself for trusting you and your dog!

PEPPER is still looking for her forever home!

She is now about 4 months, is a German shepherd mix and updated on vaccines!

Shes got the sweetest, silliest most fun personality. She loves all the love but also finds joy in doing her own thing, Pepper is great at finding that balance!

She is adventurous, curious, resilient and ready to take on anything that comes her way!

She has begun foundations for basic commands, is great at having her nails trimmed with clippers and the Dremel. She’s neutral and relaxed in stores but friendly with new people and and she’s great at playing tug in any environment!

She would do amazing at scent work, rally/obedience or agility, she’s got great working drive!

I am fostering her through For The Love Of Dogs, located in the Ottawa area!

Snowy hikes with an amazing group of dogs!

Our boarding (and training) dogs get to hike in our 30 acres every single day and it’s definitely my favourite part!

Izzy had a lesson today to do a little hike with some new dogs - she has previously met Laker but the rest were all new to her!

Today’s goal was all about letting her learn how to be around other dogs while free to interact. She’s never been around this many dogs before so this was a big step for her!

She had some large forward moments when dogs raced by her, she didn’t have a whole lot of intent though and by the end she was making good choices, sniffing the dogs and moving around nicely!

Izzy tends to freeze or lunge, she’s super unsure how to act around dogs but it’s important for her to learn! She doesn’t mind dogs and has made 2 friends in the past but the goal is for her to feel more confident around dogs and new interactions!

I’m really happy with how she’s progressed over her private training program, she’s made incredible steps due to her mom putting in the work - they are a great team !

Jack, Eddie and Carmella (all previous B&Ts) brought different personalities and energy which was super helpful! They are a perfect trio (along with Laker) and well trained which is key!

What would you add?

This year came with so many memories, adventures, titles, and experiences that I’ll never forget.

I welcomed my first sport prospect, Laker, and he has grown into an incredible addition to our crew who I love so so much. Captain and Tucker earned their CGN certifications, and Clover trialed at agility regionals this year. Lyla and Captain got started in scent work and I’m excited to continue this in the new year! Tucker and Laker did a dock diving competition for the very first time, which was Laker’s first time ever trying it and they both came home with titles each time!

I sadly lost my other bunny Luna this past year, but shes the reason we got our rooster and I’ll always remember her through him. We then got 6 other chickens as well and they are thriving!

Bailey and Remi were both officially adopted and I could not be more happy they are both in their forever homes!
I’m incredibly grateful for the lessons this year taught me, and for my amazing clients who continue to trust and support me. You are truly the reason Tuckered Out Training is here, and I appreciate you all more than I can say.

Life doesn’t always unfold the way we expect. Some years are heavier than others, but I hope you know you’re doing great, even on the hard days.

Mr. Lenny had his go home lesson today after completing his board and train with us!

Lenny has always had a naturally speedy recall built with positive reinforcement, he checked in often and had a nice balance between staying close and exploring. However, when prey drive kicked in or he caught a strong scent, there was no real way to communicate that he still needed to follow through on cues in those high-distraction moments. He’s extremely food motivated, although out in the wilderness the value wasn’t more than doing dog things!

Using a leash in those situations wouldn’t truly mimic real life. He’s often far out in the bush, and managing a long line in those moments would be a nightmare. The E-collar allows us to apply pressure in a similar way a leash would but without tangling, restriction, or taking away his freedom to explore. It gives clear communication during the exact moments that matter most.

Originally, Lenny came to us just to get a head start on the conditioning phase. There was no rush during his week here, but he picked things up incredibly quickly and ended up fully understanding the E-collar in a clear, positive way. Because of that, he became fully reliable off-leash on our 30-acre property!

He still has plenty of practice ahead with his mom, but I’m very hopeful that he’ll continue to build on this foundation and become fully off-leash reliable wherever he goes and I’m very excited for him and his parents!

Our dogs aren’t robots, every moment isn’t the same. Having the ability to clearly communicate and ensure follow-through when it truly matters is what keeps things reliable and safe if you ever need it!

Yes a total of 5 minutes is how long one of Carmellas session was! You can do so much with such little time, less is always more. You’ll never catch me doing hour long sessions with 1 dog!

Im introducing her to agility foundations, starting muzzle conditioning to ensure she’s comfortable wearing one if it’s needed and continuing exposure around dogs, on and off leash!

I don’t think most people truly understand what a real balanced trainer is - yet so many are quick to place us in a box that labels us as heartless or abusive, without ever taking the time to look deeper.

Balanced training is exactly what it sounds like: balance.
Clarity. Fairness. Thoughtful guidance.
Doing what the dog needs in order to succeed, feel secure, and live a better life.

My own training is deeply relationship and play-based. Around 90% of what I do focuses on positive reinforcement, motivation, and fulfillment. But for a dog to truly learn effectively and clearly, they need all the information. Sometimes that includes pressure, when used fairly and thoughtfully.

A dog’s well-being has always been my top priority.
That never changed - even when I chose to add e-collars into my training.

My advice to anyone reading this: be better than those shaming someone simply because they use a specific tool. Ask questions. Learn. Seek context instead of jumping to conclusions.

lol here is a glimpse into the process of the Christmas photo!

A whole lot of “down”, “good”, rewarding everyone, moving dogs around to see what works best to fit them all and where dogs will be most comfortable to stay put for a decent period of time lol.

It took just under 25 minutes total start to finish and laughs were for sure had, It requires patience on mine and the dogs side and not taking the whole thing to seriously at all (although I was so focused lol) but honestly I am so proud of all of them!

Laker really added a touch of chaotic to the whole thing though I had to pop him on the other side of the gate and brought him back last lol

Board & Trains are incredibly effective but only when the owner carries the work forward when they go home. That progress is maintained by following through, using what the dog has learned, and continuing to rebuild the relationship now that there’s clarity, structure, and understanding.

At this point, the hard teaching is done. Nothing needs to be re-taught and the work should feel significantly easier but now it’s the owner’s turn to fix old habits, practice, and step confidently into their handling. This is where trust is built between each other and confidence grows on both ends of the leash.

I’m so grateful for my Board & Train clients who truly understand this process, ask questions, and send updates and videos to fine-tune the little details. That commitment makes all the difference and I’m always here to fully support you!

When I first got Pepper, she was only about 5-6 weeks old! This is very young to be taking from the mom but both her and her sister weren’t in a good situation, which is why they were rescued and placed into foster care through For The Love Of Dogs!

She was a LOUD persistent puppy with any slight separation (even if we were right beside her) but this can be fairly common depending on where the puppy comes from!

With time and consistency, Pepper is now about 15/16 weeks and can be alone or separated with no issues and settles well even when things are going on!

A puppy’s whole world gets flipped upside down when they leave everything they’ve known since birth. Add in genetics, early separation from the mom, poor handling, or limited to no exposure to being alone, and it can all feed into the puppy behaviors we see early on.

Giving your puppy time, consistency, and patience is so important, especially when they are learning and growing!

It can be rough but getting support from a professional trainer early to create a clear plan and shape your puppy into a well-rounded adult dog can make a huge difference for both you and your pup!

Part 2: Teaching the “Heel”

1: Name the command. Say the cue “heel” or whichever cue you choose, pause a moment, then assist your dog into the correct position with luring. Mark and reward when they get into the correct spot. Repeat until your dog starts trying to do the behavior after you say the cue, before you offer assistance.

2: Fade the lure. Have no food in hand and provide a little less assistance and see if they will go into the correct position. If your dog struggles to follow the hand, go back to Part 1 to build more value to following your hand.

Step 3: Continue fading the lure until your dog needs very little help to get into position.
Once this is consistent, add the leash and keep practicing. We want them comfortable doing the position with minimal help while on leash before going to part 3!

Tips for Success:
1. Go slow. You want to help as much as needed but as little as possible.

2. Let your dog think after you say the cue. Dogs are visual learners before verbal, so hearing the word before the action helps build clear understanding.

3. Keep it clear. If things get messy, reset and try again. Only mark the position you want - it’s totally normal things to not be perfect each time. It’s important to just reset and stay clear in rewarding the good reps and praising for effort!

Bam bam is the sweetest boy and I loved getting to bond and train him!

We did it! Captain passed his Canine Good Neighbour test!

I am so proud of Captain and the work we’ve put in - this test means so much to me, especially knowing his personality and genetics.

When it comes to confidence and being neutral around people, objects, and busy environments, he’s solid. However, since he was a pup, he was never a huge fan of strangers coming into his space and touching him, as he got older it become more clear he really just wasn’t a super social dog.

That said, if you know Captain, you know he truly does love people and loves hard once he gets to know them. Over the past year, I’ve been much more intentional about building his relationship with strangers, and it’s paid off.

He’s now okay with strangers approaching - especially when they offer him a piece of food, you instantly become his buddy. It wasn’t always like this though, food used to have no effect on his emotional response at all and often made him feel more uncomfortable if it came from a stranger.

After a lot of work, I’m really happy that food can now be used in a positive way and is making a real impact.

Did he love the interaction with the tester? No. But he also wasn’t shut down or completely uncomfortable - no whale eye, no super tense face. He accepted it calmly and trusted my guidance which is huge.

I did put him in a stand command for the touching and grooming portion of the test, which is something we’ve practiced, and he handled it incredibly well.

I was fully prepared to move him away at any point if needed, because I will never push my dogs just to earn a certificate. Their well-being will always come first!

Overall, he performed everything amazingly! His heeling, obedience, and isolation portions were all perfect and he received plenty of compliments which was nice!

I love him so much. He’s amazing, and even though he’s not an overly social dog with strangers, I’m incredibly proud of him for continuing to learn, grow, and trust.

The Dog Relationship Challenge was a huge hit last time, so I’m bringing it back but with slight changes!

PEPPER is up for adoption!

This girl is the happiest, most adventurous pup. She’s sweet, social, and loves saying hello but she’s also grown into an balanced puppy who understands how to be neutral and calm when it’s needed out in the world!

Pepper isn’t easily phased. She loves problem-solving, working for food or toys, and picks up new skills incredibly fast. She loves her crate, takes naps in it and sleeps overnight with no issues - however she can still at times put up a fuss when there is commotion! Crate training and potty training will need continued work in her new home so she continues to be the best girl!!

She loves other dogs, sometimes a little too much so learning neutrality and respecting space has been a big part of her everyday life!

Pepper would make an incredible sport dog. She’s confident on agility equipment, stays engaged while also able to work independently. She’s got a great nose too, so scent work would be right up her alley!

She doesn’t mind baths or nail trims, but she’s a bit of a squirmy girl and is still learning how to stay calm for both.

She’s truly the most perfect balanced pup with a touch of spice and sass that brings her personality together!

Her ideal home:
Someone excited about training and dog sports, who wants a puppy with a solid off-switch but tons of drive to work and play. She’d do great living with other dogs, cats, and is great with kids but like most puppies she can be mouthy when tired or in play mode so setting boundaries will be important.

Sayu came in with reactivity, and if the opportunity presented itself she would bolt toward dogs off leash with no hesitation. On leash, she pulled, and meeting dogs in a more abrupt manner when she was having big feelings often led to her escalating.

Over the last 4 weeks, she learned that there are rules to being off leash. She learned how to make good choices on her own without needing a ton of help and her obedience improved!

Sayu went home no longer reacting at every dog we passed or bolting to dogs, she gained confidence, better social skills, and a much calmer mindset when navigating the world.

Now it’s time for Sayu and her mom to rebuild their relationship and trust and continue the skills she learned!

I’m super proud of her and will see her soon for a follow up lesson!

I love these boys, they are very lucky to have a dedicated mom that cares about them so much!

Neelix came in with big feelings - reactivity toward dogs, people, vacuums - he was panicky, constantly scanning, and rarely at ease outside the home.

He’s an all-go, high-drive dog with a huge personality, and these past four weeks have completely shifted his mindset while keeping all of his happy, goofy energy.

He’s heading home more content, able to make better choices, and no longer feeling the need to respond with aggression when meeting new dogs. He knows clear off leash boundaries, how to move away if feeling uncomfortable and understands clear cues to help him if needed.

He goes home tomorrow, I am so proud of how much he’s grown and I’m so excited to see his journey continue with his mom now that he’s feeling so much better!

These 3 got a whole lot of compliments today at Rona!

I got asked today, “What did you do to train them?” - which was a first for me!

It actually took me a second to think about in the moment and I didn’t answer it fully, but I wanted to share a more detailed response with you guys.

These are the steps I take⤵️

1️⃣ Clear communication: Teaching them what each cue, marker, and expectation means.

2️⃣ Motivation: Using food, toys, or affection to build confidence and a strong relationship.

3️⃣ Understanding pressure: Teaching how to yield and work with guidance, not against it.

4️⃣ Following through: Staying clear and consistent to build trust and reliability

5️⃣ Challenges: Pushing each dog when they are ready while remaining fair to the dog

6️⃣ Train the dog in front of me: Treating each dog as the individual they are to help them reach their full potential while keeping them feeling good!

Peppers first muzzle conditioning session! I decided to do her first session as a “shaping” session and she WOWED me - I mean that last rep couldn’t have been more perfect!

The session was a minute and 2 seconds!

Pepper had her first visit to the store totally free to do her thing!

She was confident, curious, happy and I am so incredibly proud of her

Field trip to @cabelas for some training!

Neelix was such a happy boy today. He thought about reacting to the kids and the first two dogs we passed (one in a cart, one being carried), but didn’t follow through. He did have a moment with a shepherd puppy who was also reacting at him, but after a few passes he finished with a successful, calm walk-by! We added in some obedience work and he handled the crowds, carts, and strollers very well!

Ziggy is doing added training while he boards with us, today he joined on our outing for exposure. The environment stressed him out a bit at first, but he worked through it with some love and settled in nicely!

Sayu didn’t react to anything and navigated the whole outing with confidence, she got spooked at one point by someone moving a garbage can but she bounced back no problem! Her obedience was awesome, even with all the distractions.

Proud of all three! Sayu and Neelix head home in a week, so we’re getting in as much solid practice as we can!

I miss her but she’s truly doing amazing back at home and her parents continue to learn and put her training to work!

I got Tucker a few months before turning 20, and he truly was the best decision I ever made - the perfect first personal dog.

From the moment he came into my life, I knew I was locked in. Dogs and animals were always apart of my life, but from that moment I knew I wanted to start something of my own.

He’s the dog who taught me the importance of proper exposure, relationship, fulfillment, and how to work through reactivity with people and dogs. He showed me what growth looks like - how we learn, adapt, and change as we grow.

He’s my best friend, he’s everything I could of asked for, he’s always there for me, and I’m forever grateful for him.

Working through reactivity can be challenging, exhausting & frustrating at times.

But it doesn’t have to be this way forever. Reactivity is something that can get better with the right foundation & direction but it starts with these important steps.

1️⃣ Find Play Your Dog Enjoys With You
Play should be mutual & fun, not just your dog entertaining themselves. Start inside the home, start small & build from there.

2️⃣ Give More Off-Leash Time
Rent fenced spaces, use long lines, find quieter spots to allow Off-leash time. Let your dog be a dog.

3️⃣ Be Okay If Your Dog Reacts
Reactivity doesn’t mean you’re failing. Reducing the pressure on yourself & your dog allows observing plus learning to happen instead of panic.

4️⃣ Clear Up Communication
Clarity in your communication reduces frustration for both ends of the leash.

5️⃣ Prioritize Sleep & Rest
Most dogs don’t get enough real rest. Avoid constant activity, rotate calm days, and support downtime - especially after stimulating outings.

6️⃣ A bonus that I missed in the post - Your dogs overall health & weight!

Ensure your dog is eating high quality food, at their proper ideal weight & are checked for injuries, even minor muscle pulls!

All four of my Board & Trains had an outing today and worked on their own individual goals!

• Sayu worked on exposure to dogs, people, and bikes, plus we continued to build her drive to stay playing tug with me In a new environment.

• Neelix practiced playing tug around triggers and most importantly doing nothing as he really needs this! He saw one distant dog on his walk and didn’t react or get to worked up, they were very far through the forest but this was still great to see! Sadly we saw no other dogs

• Nova & Sophie enjoyed an off-leash run and more leash-walking practice. They ignored the dogs and people we passed, and I’m especially proud of Nova given she used to be reactive!

So proud of every one of them and how far they’re coming in their Board & Trains!

Tucker joined me for a quick trip into Walmart yesterday to grab my nephew a birthday gift - it wasn’t planned and it was our very first time in a store that only allows service dog.

I have been putting this type of trip off for a while, not because Tucker wasn’t ready but for me it was about feeling like an imposter walking in with a service dog. I needed to just trust our training, our relationship and know we are doing everything right.

I have to remember that I can reward him, also that minor mistakes are okay, he doesn’t have to sit the millisecond I stop, it’s okay if he sniffs a bit while walking as long as he remains in heel and it’s not excessive.

He was did amazing of course though, didn’t care for any people, kids, carts - was so neutral. He responded to each cue I gave him perfectly, he was engaged, relaxed.

I have never had so many people make comments about him but it was so busy (note to self: don’t go to Walmart on a Saturday mid day), there were a couple nice moments of people telling there kids they weren’t allowed to pet too.

I love that I get to do life with him, everywhere I go, he can come and I’m so grateful.

There’s nothing like walking the dogs off leash on our 30 acres. It’s the reset we all need - the dogs get their freedom, and I get a chance to slow down, be in the fresh air and watch them do their thing!

If your dog isn’t quite ready for full off-leash freedom, renting a fenced in forest and letting them explore safely is an amazing option while you work on building those skills - it’s something you won’t regret doing for yourself and your dog!
